

WHO WE ARE
The Colchester Nepalese Society was established in January 2006 in order to fulfill many new challenges and opportunities and also preserving Nepalese Culture, tradition, ethos and identity and fully enjoy their rights and to develop their full potential; lead a respectful life in the society and at the same time integrating harmoniously and becoming an integral part of the mainstream British society especially for the future generations.
OUR OBJECTIVES
To promote social inclusion of members of the Nepalese community living in Colchester and the surrounding area for the public benefit to relieve the needs of such people and assist them to integrate into society in particular by:

Advancing education in particular by assisting in the provision of English language tuition;

Providing or assisting in the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances with the object of improving their conditions of life.

Relieving sickness and financial hardship.
WHAT WE DO
In order to achieve the above objectives we shall be organising activities such as the following:

Festivities- Organise and celebrate Nepalese festivities in accordance with Nepalese Calendar in order to preserve Nepalese culture, tradition, Nepalese identity, promote unity, to build and foster a cohesive, active and supportive Nepalese society.

Summer Events- Organise a summer activity, primarily in the form of a picnic for the purpose of social gathering and children’s education as well as physical awareness of its members. The event may include any form of fun games.

Educational, Vocational and Intellectual Awarenessincluding attachments with Age Concern Colchester - The CNS shall make reasonable attempt to gather and circulate to its member’s educational, vocational and intellectual awareness as well as information from institutions and organisations which would likely to provide support to the society including attachments to Age Concern Colchester in order to integrate into main stream British Society.

Health and Fitness Awareness- The CNS shall make every attempt to gather, deliver health and fitness related issues through the partnership, affiliation and association through local GP and organisations i.e. Tai Chi Class and sporting events. The CNS shall sponsor various sports related activities to bring health awareness of the society especially youth activities run by youth coordinators.

Chair’s talk to senior citizens- The Chairman will talk to all senior citizens twice a year about life in the UK, traffic discipline, as well as individuals’ responsibility as a citizen and gaining access to government departments.

Congratulate newly-wed couples- Those entering in marital life by giving them a bouquet of flower and card.

Recognising achievements- Any member of the society who could be able to bag outstanding achievements in educational, professional or any other field will be honored and felicitated. Those children who complete their GCSE A Level and University degrees as well as excelling in any sporting activities will be congratulated by the society during Dashain celebration if nominations are forwarded well in advance.

Arrival of New Babies- Any female member who is having a baby; she shall be visited by the Executive Committee at the hospital and give her a bouquet of flower and card.

Fundraising Events- Taking part in fundraising events in Colchester along with other charitable organisations i.e, supporting British Legion Colchester in collecting funds for Poppy Appeal every year in October and November, be part of organisning committee and supporting BIG SUNDAY in July and be part of and supporting Festival of Rice and Spice.

In the unlikely event of sickness, burglary or death- The Executive Committee and respective area reps will visit the person/s concerned and extend sympathy with a card and bouquet of flower and organise funeral for the deceased and try to help them financially as well as morally in the case of death to the next of kin.

Welcome Pack- All newcomers in the area shall be extended a welcome pack (i.e. constitution, events calendar, membership application form and nominal roll by area) by the committee in order to ensure that they are not isolated in Colchester and East Anglia Region and there is someone who they could contact in the event of any difficulty or in an emergency. He/she will be introduced during a function and extended welcome to Colchester. Assist finding jobs to newcomers as much as possible through local agencies.

Farewell- It is the individual’s responsibility to let the area representatives know when he/she is moving out from Colchester in order to enhance their future. The committee will present a suitable farewell gift or a letter from the Chair thanking them for their contribution while living in Colchester. If known in advance, he/she will be bidding farewell during one of the functions.
