Ladies and gentlemen,
What an excellent turnout we had today at the senior citizen’s seminar.
Learning studio A was full of our members and I felt very humbled by your interest and almost everyone were on time.
Photographs of winners of best dressed ladies along with the judges and Mrs Chair.
We therefore kick started our programme at 3pm for which I am really grateful.
The topics we have covered were:
1. Health and safety while walking on streets/roads.
2. How to present ourselves while walking in the streets.
3. Safe keeping our valuables in Metro bank
4. Personal insurance
5. Burglary and don’t become victims of burglary at your own house.
6. If you become sick, let your neighbours or your Area Reps know, they will try to sort out as much as they can. If you can’t get through to them, ring me as my mobile is switched on 24/7 and you can leave message. I will get back to you.
7. When you go to GP, tell the receptionist that you need a translator.
8. Mrs Mandy Gurung is the Coordinator senior citizens and she is asked to organise two visits (one educational and one entertainment) in 2018
9. Mrs Shanti Gurung and Mrs Chandra Maya Sunuwar were selected by the following judges for the best dressed ladies at the seminar and they are Mrs Kamala Khatri, Mrs Jita Rai, Mrs Usha Ghale, Mrs Chandan Gurung, Mrs Rita Magar, Mrs Yashoda Shrestha and Mrs Sangita Sunuwar. Mrs Chair presented prizes to both, prizes were provided by the Chair.
10. English Language workshops on 24 February, 10 March, 24 March and 7 April (1-4) pm by English Teacher, English Dance Teacher, Nepali Dance Teacher and Nepali Interpreter. All senior citizens are asked to be there by 12.45 pm.
11. We like to thank the Food Coordinator for providing messing at £300.00. Our thanks go to Rubin Gurung, Hari Malla, Arjun Sunuwar, Bhel Birkata, Kumar Rai, Arjun Rai, Kushal Ghale. Without their hard work, dedication and commitment we would not be able to eat such a mouth watering messing in the evening. Your contribution is appreciated by the senior citizens.
22. We are also grateful to the following:
Arjun Sunuwar
Birendra Shrestha
Bhel B Birkata
Sita Limbu
Sangita Sunuwar
Rita Magar
Deepa Gurung
Tarun Gurung
Sami Tulachan
Udai B Gurung
Yogesh Rai sent £50.00 to CNS account for 300 water bottles
The water you have provided quenched the thirst of everyone, thank you very much for your generosity.
Mr Phakta Garbuja asked why there is no provision about Nepali language in the forms used in the NHS.
As members of her majesty’s Ex armed forces, there must be provisions to be made about Nepali language in the forms used in NHS.
The Chair reassured him that he had already taken action about it and he will once again take necessary action in the next few days.
I must thank Dr Tashi Gurung (GP New Town) explaining the risks of both breast and prostate cancer using power point presentation.
As it was delivered on our own language everyone understood with the assistance from his Wife Gita Gurung senior nurse. Without their dedication and commitment this was not possible.
He then started taking blood pressure checks of members.
Mr Umesh Pun advised everyone to provide correct bank statements in April so that DWP will not give them troubles.
Mr Bal Prasad Sherchan explained his experience travelling back to Nepal and emphasised the following:
1. Get a ticket at week days rather than at week-ends as it is cheaper at week days.
2. Arrange at least 3-4 hours gap between flights so that you can catch flight if you were delayed by an hour from Kathmandu.
3. Do not give any money to any body to buy gold or any other items unless you physically receives gold or the items you were buying.
Last but not the least, our thanks must go to senior citizens who have made themselves available on the day; without their attendance the seminar would not have been as successful as it has been.
Well done to everyone.
