CNS Executives Visit Major Chandra Bahadur Gurung MVO and Mr. Mahendra Gurung’s Family

On Sunday, 31 August 2025, CNS executives visited the family of Major Chandra Bahadur Gurung MVO and his brother, Mr. Mahendra Gurung, at their residence, 43 Mountbatten Drive, Colchester.

This long-awaited visit followed the passing of their beloved mother, the late Mrs. Chhetra Kumari Gurung, whose final rituals were completed in Nepal. Although the family returned to Colchester in early August 2024, due to various circumstances, the CNS executives had not been able to visit them until now. The gathering was both sombre and heartwarming. It was a moment of remembrance and reflection, but also one of encouragement, as the family united, supported each other, and moved forward with the younger generations. During the visit, the Chair paid tribute to the late Mrs. Chhetra Kumari Gurung, who lived an inspiring life of 91 years, almost reaching a century. He reminded everyone that while the loss of a mother is one of life’s greatest sorrows, it is also part of the human cycle that none of us can escape. What remains essential is cherishing the memories, the values, and the love she left behind.

As part of the tradition, the Assistant Cultural Coordinator, Mandy Gurung, was asked to perform the Rupa ceremony to bring back the lost souls, which accompanied the departed soul with the family symbolically. The Chair then placed a Rupa around the necks of Major Chandra and Mr. Mahendra, offering them blessings of strength and peace. Welcome cards and a bouquet were also presented to the family as tokens of respect and solidarity.

In response, Mr. Mahendra Gurung expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the family. He thanked CNS and the Gurung community for their support, dedication, and compassion during their time of grief.

The CNS delegation consisted of the Chair, Cultural Coordinator, Assistant Cultural Coordinator, Assistant Treasurer, and Adviser Kirtan Gurung. The family graciously hosted the group with refreshments, and the visit concluded at around 7 pm.

This visit was a meaningful reminder of the values of community, compassion, and togetherness, which continue to define CNS.

आइतबार, ३१ अगस्ट २०२५ मा,

CNS कार्यकारी टोलीले मेजर चन्द्र बहादुर गुरुङ MVO र उनका भाइ श्री महेन्द्र गुरुङको परिवारलाई तिनीहरूको निवासस्थान, ४३ माउन्टब्याटन ड्राइभ, कोलचेस्टरमा भेट गर्‍यो।

यो लामो प्रतीक्षित भेट परिवारकी आमाज्यू, स्व. श्रीमती छेत्र कुमारी गुरुङको निधनपश्चात् भएको हो, जसको अन्तिम संस्कार नेपालमा सम्पन्न भएको। यद्यपि परिवार सन् २०२४ अगस्टको सुरुवातमै कोलचेस्टर फर्किएको 

थियो, विभिन्न कारणले गर्दा CNS कार्यकारी टोलीले अहिले मात्र भेट गर्न सक्यो। यो जमघट एकै साथ 

दुःखदायीदुःखदायी र हृदयस्पर्शी रह्यो। यो स्मरण र आत्मचिन्तनको क्षण मात्र नभई उत्साहको क्षण पनि 

थियो, जहाँ परिवार एकताबद्ध भई, एकअर्कालाई साथ दिई, नयाँ पुस्तासँग अघि बढिरहेको देखियो। भेटका 

क्रममा, अध्यक्षले स्व. श्रीमती छेत्र कुमारी गुरुङप्रति श्रद्धाञ्जली अर्पण गर्दै भन्नुभयो कि उहाँले ९१ वर्षको 

प्रेरणादायी जीवन व्यतीत गर्नुभयो, जुन लगभग शताब्दी पुग्ने जीवन हो उहाँले स्मरण गराउनुभयो कि आमा गुमाउनु 

जीवनको सबैभन्दा ठूलो पीडामध्ये एक हो, तर यो मानव चक्रको अटल सत्य हो जसबाट हामी कसैले बच्न सक्दैनौं।तर आवश्यक कुरा भनेको उहाँले छोडेर जानुभएको सम्झना, मूल्य र माया जोगाएर राख्नु हो।

परम्पराअनुसार, सह-सांस्कृतिक संयोजक म्यान्डी गुरुङलाई रुपा संस्कार गर्न अनुरोध गरिएको थियो, जसले 

गुमेका आत्मालाई परिवारसँग प्रतीकात्मक रूपमा फर्काउने मान्यता छ। त्यसपछि अध्यक्षले मेजर चन्द्र र श्री 

महेन्द्र गुरुङलाई रुपा लगाइदिनुभयो र बल तथा शान्तिको आशीर्वाद प्रदान गर्नुभयो साथै, सम्मान र ऐक्यबद्धताको 

प्रतीकस्वरूप परिवारलाई स्वागत कार्ड र फूलको गुच्छा पनि अर्पण गरियो।

जवाफमा, श्री महेन्द्र गुरुङले आफ्ना परिवारतर्फबाट हार्दिक आभार व्यक्त गर्दै CNS र सम्पूर्ण गुरुङ समुदायलाई दुःखद घडीमा देखाएको समर्थन, समर्पण र करुणाप्रति धन्यवाद प्रकट गर्नुभयो।

CNS प्रतिनिधिमण्डलमा अध्यक्ष, सांस्कृतिक संयोजक, सह-सांस्कृतिक संयोजक, सह-कोषाध्यक्ष र सल्लाहकार किरन गुरुङ सहभागी हुनुहुन्थ्यो। परिवारले आतिथ्यताका रूपमा नास्ता 

खुवाउनुभयो, र भेटघाट साँझ करिब ७ बजे सम्पन्न भयो।

यस भेटले समुदाय, करुणा र एकताको मूल्यलाई फेरि स्मरण गरायो, जुन सधैं CNS को पहिचान बनेर रहन्छ।
