It is with profound sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved Bimla Limbu, the eldest daughter of Amar Bahadur Kurumbang Limbu and Ganga Maya Limbu. Bimla left this world for her eternal journey on Tuesday, 16 September 2025, leaving behind her loving parents, two beautiful daughters, family members, friends, and the wider Colchester Nepalese community, who cherished her deeply.
Her funeral service, lovingly organised by the Colchester Nepalese Society (CNS) on Wednesday, 8 October 2025, was supported by the KYC Colchester Branch, Mr Kul Prasad Limbu, family relatives, and the secretary of the KYC Colchester branch, who guided the funeral procession with great care and dignity.
The ceremony began with a private service led by Shrin Yaba at The Scout Hall, The Parade, Colchester (CO2 8LY), attended by close family members between 12:40 and 2:oo pm. From there, the hearse carrying Bimla’s coffin and a limousine with family members proceeded to the Colchester Cemetery and Crematorium, arriving at 2:18 pm. Along the roadside, mourners stood silently in respect, forming a heartfelt guard of honour leading to the Chapel.
A hundred metres from the Chapel, the coffin was gently lifted from the hearse by family pallbearers, followed by Shrin Yaba and Bimla’s two daughters, who lovingly carried their mother’s photograph in the front of the coffin. As Piper Paul Young played Amazing Grace and Flowers of Scotland, the procession moved slowly and gracefully towards the Chapel, a moment that deeply touched every heart present.
Inside the Chapel, the Secretary of KYC Colchester Branch invited everyone to be seated, with the family placed in the front row. The service began with a few words of reflection from the Kurumbang family, followed by tributes from the Chair/Trustee of CNS and the Secretary, who spoke on behalf of the family. Wreaths were then laid by her parents, the Kurumbang family, KYC Colchester Branch, KYC Central, the 1978 intake group, Colchester Nepalese Society and relatives. A solemn minute’s silence followed, a collective moment of remembrance for Bimla’s gentle soul.
Mourners were then invited to come forward, one by one, to place loose flowers and matchsticks upon the coffin before exiting through the purification stand. In keeping with Bimla’s compassionate spirit, a Mental Health Charity collection box provided by Hunnaball of Colchester was available, encouraging donations in lieu of flowers and khadas. The generosity of the mourners raised £1,686.52, which will soon be donated to a Mental Health Charity in Essex, a fitting tribute to Bimla’s caring heart. More than 300 mourners, family, friends, colleagues, and members of the Nepalese community, came together to honour her life.
Finally, in the presence of her father, brother, and close relatives, Shrin Yaba performed the final prayers before handing over the coffin to Graham of Hunnaball Colchester. Bimla’s father and brother, with heavy hearts, witnessed the final farewell from the viewing point, marking the closing chapter of a precious life lived with love and kindness.
After the cremation, everyone gathered for a wake at the Gurkha Britannia, where refreshments were generously provided by Gurkha Britannia and served by the KYC Colchester Branch. The Chair/Trustee of CNS offered words of tribute, expressing gratitude to all who attended and supported Bimla’s farewell, including Hunnaball of Colchester, Shrin Yaba, the volunteers, and all friends and relatives. The secretary Kurumbang family also shared a few heartfelt words, and their Chair presented a cheque to assist the family in completing Bimla’s final rituals.
Bimla’s passing at the young age of 40 is an immeasurable loss to her family, friends, and our entire community. Bimla will be remembered always for her kindness, her smile, and her selfless heart that reached out to others in need.
Rest peacefully, dearest Bimla. Your light will continue to shine in our hearts forever.
With deepest respect and condolences,
Udaibahadur Gurung MBE
Chair / Trustee, Colchester Nepalese Society (CNS)
