Dear all,

As planned the Nepalese Doctor’s Association (NDA) and the Nepalese Nurse’s Association (NNA) have carried out an excellent Health Education Awareness and Advice Programme (HEAP) in Colchester at Studio 1 and 2 at Firstsite on Sat 16 Feb 19.

The delegation and members of Colchester Nepalese Society began arriving at Firstsite from 10:30am. The official programme began at 11:30am by lighting two Panas by Dr Sabin Man Joshi, Consultant Neurosurgeon and Chair NDA and Dr Chuda Karki Consultant Psychiatrist assisted by Major Udaibahadur Gurung MBE Chair Colchester Nepalese Society.

It was followed by welcome speeches from the Chair Colchester Nepalese Society Major Udaibahadur Gurung MBE, Mrs Rasmita Singh Darlami General Secretary NNA and Dr Sabin Man Joshi Consultant Neurosurgeon and Chair NDA.

On completion of welcome speeches, Dr Kamal Aryal Consultant GI Surgeon highlighted the programme of the day and began in earnest.

First talk was given by members of NNA and it was about Stroke role play which was delivered as realistic as possible and it was an eye opening.

The Stroke role play was followed by an excellent talk about Diabetes by Dr Sankalpa Neupane Consultant Diabetologist and Physician followed by Lung Chest Problems by Dr Sudhir Lohani Consultant Physician and Nurse Bina Lamichhane, followed by Dental Hygiene and Dental Diseases by Dr Rekha Shrestha General Dental Surgeon, followed by Mental Health by Dr Chuda Karki Consultant Psychiatrist, followed by Cancers in Females by Dr Beena Subba Consultant Gynaecologist, followed by What to do if you have an emergency by Dr Ramesh Khoju Consultant Anaesthetist who came all the way from Wales, and finally how to use NHS, where to go, what to do with problems including screening programme by Dr Tashi Gurung General Practitioner at Wimpole Road Colchester.

I believe It was one of the excellent programme run by NDA and NNA for the benefit of members of Colchester Nepalese Society in Nepali language, which was most beneficial for older generations of Colchester Nepalese Society.

The Health Education Awareness and Advice programmes (HEAP) was summarised by Dr Raghav Dhital OBE General Practitioner and past president of YETI followed by vote of thanks by the Chair Colchester Nepalese Society to Members of NDA and NNA.

On completion of official programmes, there was a lunch break at about 2pm, which was provided by Food Coordinators Mr Rubin Gurung and Mr Hari Malla, his wife and they were assisted by Area Reps Mr Bhel B Birkata, Mr Arjun Sunuwar, Mr Amar Limbu, Mr Siddi Gauchan, Mr Ombahadur Gurung and Deputy Treasurer Mr Laxman Gurung. Everybody enjoyed their late lunch, everyone were commenting about the standard of food which were very tasty, mouthwatering and prepared in an excellent manner.

A vote of thanks then proposed by Chair Colchester Nepalese Society to the Food team. Well done.

On completion of late lunch break, a one to one consulting session began where members of Colchester Nepalese Society were put through a series of stands by the consultants.

The Members of NNA team registered members of Colchester Nepalese Society and measured their height, weight, BMI, blood sugar level and then they were referred to the consultants.

Again it was proved to be one of the excellent programmes run by NDA and NNA in Nepali language for the benefit of members. The Health Education Awareness and Advice Programme came to close at 4:35pm.

The Health Education Awareness and Advice Programme was attended by most members of Colchester Nepalese Society and I must thank the Area Reps for their ability in inviting so many members from their Areas and am proud of your diligence and passing informations to members of their area of responsibility.

Finally, I like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Kamal Aryal Consultant GI Surgeon for playing such a crucial role in order to organise the programme and his fellow Doctors and Nurses for their dedication, commitment and will to do well for their Nepalese brothers and sisters.

Hats off to NDA and NNA
