Dear all,
As planned the senior citizens’ seminar took place at Studio 1 and 2 at 15:00 hours and it was attended by almost 85 people. We are now using British time and Nepali time is thing of the past. Well done in turning up in good time and keep up the good work.
I believe senior citizens’ programme has now become part and parcel of CNS activity. It has given senior citizens knowledges and discipline in their daily lives including important informations about diabetes, dental health, blood sugar levels and how to keep their dental health well.
In order to implant knowledges and informations on varieties of subjects, the following gave presentations in the following subjects:
The Chair gave a talk about general day to day responsibilities and discipline of individuals including traffic discipline, dress to be worn when out and about from their homes and present them to outside world.
Dr Tashi Gurung MBBS MRCGP spoke about diabetes signs, symptoms, risks and cure. He emphasised that by controlling our own eating habit and putting on weight and eating right diet will reduce risk of getting the disease; his message was prevention is better than cure was the ‘’Mantra’’ of the day.
There was a break for 15 minutes to stretch their legs and for tea/coffee.
After short break Dr Rekha Shrestha than talked about ‘’Dental Hygiene’’ and how to keep their dental health in good stead by demonstrating using tooth brush, and also using flushes etc.
I believe both Dr Tashi and Dr Rekha have given an excellent informations about diabetes and it’s prevention and dental health and it’s prevention from decaying and losing one’s teeth.
After the presentation, Vice Chair organised ladies and gents’ dress competitions by lining them up at the corner. First it was the ladies dress competition judged by Kamala Khatri Ladies Coordinator, Babita Sewa Area Rep Gurdon Road and Basanti Bardewa Area Rep New Town. All the ladies turned up in an excellent English attire and it was so hard to find the winner of the best dressed lady by the judges. Finally the judges have chosen the following:
Winner - Mrs Krishna Kumari Rai
Runners Up - Mrs Sundevi Gurung
1st Runners Up - Mrs Tikisara Pun
The Chair presented a prize from his own pocket to the winner.
Once the ladies dress competition was over the gents were lined up and Rajendra Sherchan MBE Vice Chair and Umesh Pun MVO Advisor judged the gentlemen and chosen three individuals:
Winner - Phakta Garbuja
Runners Up - Mr Ratna Dewan
1st Runners Up - Mr Iswar Bahadur Sahi
The chair then presented a prize from his own pocket to the winner.
Once the dress competition was over, finger prick test for diabetes were taken by Staff Nurse (Retired) Gita Gurung and Nurse Masina Gurung by collecting samples of blood, whereas Dr Rekha Shrestha has shown every individual how to clean their dental health using brush and flushes.
Once everyone have completed their finger prick test and have seen by Dr Rekha, it was time for them to have messing provided by Mr Dambar Limbu Food Coordinator and Mr Chhatra Limbu Asst Food Coordinator and the volunteers.
