Mrs Kumari Gurung from Gurkha Home travelled to Nepal on leave in late October. During her visit, she found her eldest son, Dipak, aged 57, seriously unwell with pneumonia. Subsequent medical examinations revealed that he was suffering from stage-4 cancer. Mrs Gurung spent a considerable amount of money in an attempt to find treatment for him; however, despite all efforts, he sadly passed away on 3rd November.
After completing her son’s funeral rites and Arghun, Mrs Gurung returned to Colchester approximately one week ago. Following the Pre-AGM, the Area Representative of Gurkha Home and the executive committee members visited her at Flat 14, Abbeygate House, to offer condolences and express solidarity.
During the visit, the Chair expressed heartfelt condolences, acknowledging the profound pain of a mother having to perform the final rites for her son. He spoke about the nature of life and fate, encouraged Mrs Gurung to remain strong, reassured her of the organisation’s support, and conveyed prayers that her son may find eternal peace alongside his father.
As a gesture of condolence and to symbolically restore spiritual strength following her loss, the Area Representative of Gurkha Home placed a Rupa around Mrs Gurung’s neck, the Vice Chair presented her with a flower, and the Ladies’ Coordinator offered a condolence card. Mrs Gurung’s friends kindly provided refreshments to the visiting executive committee members.
The visit concluded at approximately 7:30 pm, with reassurances given to Mrs Gurung that the Executive Committee stand with her and that she may seek assistance whenever required.
