On Saturday, 1st February, the members of the Colchester Nepalese Society (CNS) gathered at the Gurkha Home for a heartfelt farewell to Captain Rajendra Sherchan MBE, the outgoing Vice Chair, and to extend a warm welcome to the incoming Vice Chair, Mrs. Sanu Subba, and Area Representative for St Michaels, Mr. Raj Tamang.
The evening began at 5 pm with an appreciation for Captain Sherchan’s dedicated service. After announcing his decision to step down due to other commitments, the Chair of CNS expressed deep gratitude for Captain Sherchan’s unwavering commitment and the invaluable contributions he made during his tenure. His insight and timely input into the society’s development will be greatly missed. In his farewell speech, Captain Sherchan reassured the members that although he was stepping down from the Vice Chair position, he would remain involved with the committee and continue supporting CNS activities whenever needed. He emphasized that his decision was purely to make space for others and that there were no personal differences, leaving the society on amicable terms.
The society warmly welcomed Mrs. Sanu Subba as the new Vice Chair. The Chair expressed excitement about her appointment, noting that it was a positive step toward having more women in senior leadership roles within CNS. In her response, Mrs. Subba expressed her happiness about the new responsibility and pledged her commitment to continue working hard for the betterment of society. Her dedication to the cause was evident, and the members expressed confidence in her ability to lead.
The evening also marked the transition for Area Rep St. Michael, with Mr. Raj Tamang stepping into the role. Due to prior commitments, the outgoing Area Rep, Mr. Mahesh Gurung, St. Michael, could not attend the gathering. The Chair, however, took a moment to thank Mr. Gurung for his steadfast service and dedication to the position.
The event was made even more special by the wonderful spread of food and beverages, coordinated by the Food Coordinator, his assistant and Area Rep Gurkha Home and assisted by Prem Bahadur Limbu, with the help of members from the Gurkha Home, including Mishra, Chin, Yal, Masana, and others. All enjoyed the delicious meal, and the evening ended on a positive note as members dispersed at around 7:30 pm, thanking those involved in the preparation and making the event a success.
As CNS looks ahead, the collective spirit of commitment and unity shown during this transition reassures all members that the society will continue to thrive and grow under the leadership of the incoming Vice Chair and Area Rep. It’s an exciting new chapter for the Colchester Nepalese Society!
