“A Heartfelt Tribute to Mrs. Jitmaya Limbu: Supporting Cancer Research at the Corrington Centre”
It is with profound sorrow and admiration that we remember the late Mrs. Jitmaya Limbu, whose journey touched many hearts. Mrs Limbu was a dedicated attendee of the Colchester Nepalese Society (CNS) Yoga sessions every Monday and English classes every Wednesday and Friday, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. These activities brought her joy, health, and a sense of community until her health took a sudden and devastating turn.
In early October 2024, we began to see less of Mrs Limbu, and by the end of that month, she was admitted to Colchester General Hospital, where she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Despite the grim prognosis, Mrs. Limbu remained determined to improve and continue her participation in Yoga and English classes. Tragically, she could not overcome the disease and passed away on Monday, 6 January 2025, leaving behind a profound legacy of resilience and hope.
In honour of her memory, the family and friends of Mrs Limbu chose to forgo the traditional practices of presenting bouquets and khada materials at the funeral. Instead, they encouraged mourners to contribute £2 or £3 into a collection box outside the Chapel. The funds, which totalled £954.90, were dedicated to supporting Cancer Research UK in its fight against this devastating illness.
On Wednesday, 5 February 2025, Amar Bahadur Limbu (Mrs Limbu's son) handed the donation to Melody Ball chemotherapy nurse at the Collingwood Centre at Colchester General Hospital. This small but meaningful gesture reflects the collective hope of Mrs Limbu's loved ones: to support the ongoing search for a cure for cancer and to help those currently battling the disease.
We want to thank Collingwood Centre at Colchester General Hospital and the dedicated Colonia Court Residential and Care Home staff for caring for Mrs Limbu during her illness. Their tireless efforts made her final days as comfortable as possible.
May Mrs Jitmaya Limbu rest in eternal peace, and may her memory inspire others to continue the fight against cancer so that one day, a cure may be found.
