Sanchamaya Limbu, the 75-year-old widow of the late Chhatrakumar Limbu (Service Number: 21152941), arrived in Colchester from Nepal on 25 April 2024. She settled into her new home at 3 Fairfax Road, Colchester, CO2 7EW, and was ready to start a new chapter.
However, shortly after her arrival, Sanchamaya received heartbreaking news from Australia: her 48-year-old daughter had passed away from breast cancer. Despite her frail health, Sanchamaya displayed remarkable strength. She conducted her daughter's rituals from 22 May to 24 May at her residence, surrounded by supportive community members.
As the Chair of the Colchester Nepalese Society, I visited Sanchamaya on Friday, 24 May, to offer condolences and support. Other executives were unable to attend due to prior commitments. I shared words of comfort with her, acknowledging the unpredictability of life and the importance of cherishing our time. I reminded her that, although the almighty has taken her daughter, she should focus on her own well-being.
On behalf of the Colchester Nepalese Society, I handed over £300 to Sanchamaya to help her with food and drinks until she received her pension credit and housing benefit. She must not worry continuously about her daughter and understand that her life is essential. Life must continue despite the tragedies we encounter.
Society members have supported Sanchamaya, and we must continue to show camaraderie and assist each other as much as possible. Her story is a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit.
