On Sunday, February 23, the Colchester Nepalese Society (CNS) executive committee members visited Mrs. Sundevi Gurung, the wife of the late Kamansing Gurung, at her residence. The gathering took place at 1:55 pm, with the committee members including the Chair, Vice Chair Sanu Subba, Secretary Mukti Limbu, Youth Coordinator Bikash Rai, and Area Representative for St Michaels Raj Tamang.
The visit began with a warm welcome from Secretary Mukti Limbu, who greeted Mrs Gurung and her son, Nainasing Gurung, alongside his family, who had just returned from Nepal after completing the traditional arghaun ceremony in memory of Kamansing Gurung.
The Chair, reflecting on life's complex yet natural cycle, expressed heartfelt words: "You were with your husband until December, and now you are on your own. It is a part of life; human beings must eventually leave. We must accept it sooner or later, and life must go on. In Kali Yug, it is not possible to follow the tradition of joining our husbands in death like in Satya Yug, no matter how much we love them."
In a meaningful gesture of solidarity, the Vice Chair placed a thread around the neck of Mrs. Gurung, her daughter-in-law and granddaughter, while Youth Coordinator Bikash Rai did the same for Nainasing Gurung. This symbolic act represented the hope, support, and unity of the Colchester Nepalese Society family.
Masina Gurung, the daughter-in-law, graciously prepared tea, coffee, and delicious refreshments during the visit. After spending some time with the family, the CNS executive committee members left 17 Rye Close just after 3:45 pm, having shared a moment of support and solidarity with the Gurung family after completing their essential cultural and familial duties.
