On Monday, 12 May 2025, the 2569th birth anniversary of Gautam Buddha - Buddha Purnimawas celebrated with great reverence and joy by the Gurkha Home on behalf of the Colchester Nepalese Society.
The event was beautifully organised by Area Representative Mrs Jas Kumari Gurung, with dedicated support from members of the Gurkha Home and Captain Umesh Kumar Pun, MVO.
The celebration's highlight was a serene prayer session and the lighting of 108 lamps in honour of Lord Buddha, whose timeless teachings of peace, compassion, and wisdom continue to guide millions worldwide.
Attendees were treated to a delicious vegetarian feast, true to the spirit of Buddha, who never consumed meat. The atmosphere was filled with a deep sense of community, reflection, and gratitude. The congregation concluded by 3 pm, with everyone returning home uplifted and spiritually fulfilled after a truly meaningful Buddha Jayanti celebration.
