The 8th Annual General Meeting of Colchester Nepali Society (CNS) was held on 7th January 2024 at First Sight Colchester. Election Commission Chairman Capt (retd) Umesh Kumar Pun MVO and EC Secretary Kiran Gurung were given the responsibility of electing the new committee members. Early on 17 September 2023, the Election Committee informed everyone that the applications of the interested candidates should be submitted by 25 November 2023 and that this important task had to be completed by strictly following the formalities of the democratic process and the recognition of the executive members.
After announcing the dissolution of the current CNS Executive Committee, EC Secretary was given the authority to conduct the election process in the absence of the Chairman of the Election Committee.
EC Secretary then conducted the election program according to the 2024 election code of conduct and schedule. Since there was no volunteer candidate application for any of the posts till that date, EC Secretary requested the Chairman of the Dissolution Executive Committee to reinstate the post for the next two-year term with mutual agreement and understanding. Major (retd) Udaybahadur Gurung MBE, chairman of the Dissolved Committee, gladly accepted my request. However, the EC Secretary informed everyone that the election process has been completed by strictly following all the formalities and norms of the democratic process.
During the process of election, the re-elected chairman gave his formal approval when EC Secretary requested that all the re-nominated members, including the newly elected chairman, be sworn in with presenting Khadas. This process was carried out in the interest of society and accordance with the CNS Code of Conduct.
Most of the members of the Dissolution Executive Committee were re-elected for another 2 years. I am extremely proud that all the members present at the 8th Annual General Meeting and Election agreed to the proposal. Expressing my sincere gratitude for their support, we are fully confident that everyone will support the society with faith and positive thinking in the coming days.
It was my great honour to have the opportunity to elect the new Executive Committee members and on behalf of the EC, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all those who participated in the 8th Annual General Meeting and witnessed Election Session 2024. Thanks to all the members for their valuable time and support.
Finally, many congratulations to the newly elected Chairman of CNS Major (Ret'd) Udaibahadur Gurung MBE and all the members of his executive committee.
Sincerely,
Kiran Gurung
EC Secretary 2024
