Dear Members,
It was excellent, and plenty of day-to-day needs and health-related information was disseminated to our senior citizens yesterday at the senior citizens' seminar at Firstsite. It was made possible by our doctors, Dental Care Practitioners and nurses working in Colchester; it was their knowledge, ability and will to do well for the community. The following subjects were covered:
a. General discipline among the senior citizens regarding do's and don'ts (Chair)
b. Types of cancer, its symptoms, possible remedies and its reporting procedure (Dr Tashi Gurung)
c. Kidney function, its symptoms, possible remedies and reporting procedure (Dr Sonya Limbu)
d. Oral health and its care procedure (DCP Rebika Limbu)
e. Stroke, its symptoms, how it happens and possible remedies before the possible Stroke and its reporting procedures (Dr Prativa Rai).
f. Respiratory diseases, their symptoms and possible remedies and reporting procedures (Dr Mohan Pun)
g. SEPSIS, its symptoms and possible remedies and reporting procedures (RN Anisha Gurung)
One of the critical messages disseminated was dialling 111 or 999. It would be best to remember the keywords, i.e. Ambulance, your address, postcode, breathing yes or no, etc.
Once the talks were completed, the doctors, nurses and dental care practitioners organised workshops where members' blood pressure checks were carried out, and the doctors saw them on a one-to-one basis. Everyone was shown how to maintain their oral health by cleaning their teeth.
I like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Tashi, Dr Sonya, DCP Rebika, Dr Prativa, Dr Mohan, RN Anisha, RN Masina, HCA Laxmi, RN Amina, and RN Daya for their dedication and commitment to CNS, round of applause to them. We like to see them doing the same in September, when we will give them more time to explain.
To run any event successfully, there must be someone playing an important role; the following persons have played significant roles:
a. Area Rep St. Michaels (Mr Mahesh Gurung) planned and bought tea, coffee, biscuits, plates, napkins and other necessities, including a water boiler and made tea/coffee as required throughout the seminar. Well done for his excellent administration.
b. Mr Tara Siris delivered food items at Gurkha Home by 10:30 hours, and well done for your diligence.
c. Area Rep Gurkha Home (Mrs Jas Kumari Gurung) planned and prepared rice, mouth-watering pork curry, chicken curry, and paneer, which everyone enjoyed. Area Rep Gurkha Home was assisted by the following:
Mrs CB Gurung Master Chef
Mr Dhan Bhujuwar (Area Rep New Town)
Mr Sovit Gurung
Mr Mishra Gurung
Mrs Tak Maya Pun
Mrs Tek Maya Pun
Mrs Masana Limbu
Mr Chin Bahadur Pun
Mrs Kumari Pun
Mr Mukti Limbu (Secretary)
Mrs Mina Gauchan (Area Rep Gurdon Road)
Mr Kumar Limbu
Well done to everyone, and the CNS appreciate your excellent mouth-watering messing.
At the end of the messing, everyone visited Ashir Jewellery's mobile shop, and we like to thank Mrs Renu Rai and her colleagues who came to deliver what our members wanted. I hope their visit was a success.
Finally, a big thanks go to the last people who cleaned Studio 1 and 2; without leaving them clean, our likely chance of using it again in the future is very slim. Credit goes to the following:
Mrs Surya Kumari Limbu
Mr Mukti Limbu (Secretary)
Mr Mahesh Gurung (Area Rep St Michael)
Mr Ram Gurung, senior
Mrs Laxmi Gurung HCA
Mr Kushal Ghale
Mrs Usha Gurung/Ghale
I am very proud that the seminar went well, and we know our habit of timekeeping is changing for good. Finally, I am happy that everyone came together and successfully completed yet another senior citizens seminar.
Well done.
Udai B Gurung MBE
Chair/Trustee
